Preparing for Ramadan
Many Muslims begin preparing in Sha'ban: making up any fasts still owed from last year, fasting a few voluntary days, reading more Qur'an and setting simple goals for prayer and charity. Small, steady intentions tend to last the whole month.
A day in Ramadan
The fast runs from dawn (the start of Fajr time) until sunset (Maghrib). Suhoor is eaten before dawn and iftar breaks the fast at sunset. Evenings are often spent in Taraweeh prayer, and the last ten nights are a time of extra worship in search of Laylat al-Qadr.
Charity and Zakat
Many people pay their annual Zakat in Ramadan. Use the free Zakat calculator to work out what you owe, and remember Zakat al-Fitr is due before the Eid prayer.
