About the Hijri calendar
The Islamic calendar is lunar. It counts years from the Hijrah, the Prophet's ﷺ migration from Makkah to Madinah, and each month begins with the new crescent moon. It sets the dates of Ramadan, Hajj and both Eids, and is used to time a year for Zakat.
